Tokyo based Spanish artist Luis Mendo created Mr Mendo as a bearer for his fears, frustrations and dreams. Having the character doing or saying what he never dares is Mr Mendo’s raison d'etre.
This is Mr Mendo’s home.
Mr Mendo — the Alter Ego of Artist Luis Mendo
Waiting for Nothing to Happen is the Best Strategy to Make Things Happen.
It’s clear to Luis that waiting for things to happen doesn’t work; you have to go to the studio and show up. But also: do not expect anything to happen! Just start working and you might get a surprise.
This is why Luis gave life to this guy, had him appear in drawings and come up in stories.
Imagine you can be whoever you want: you can dress as a cardinal, roar as a cat, walk like a turtle or be a train conductor. Mr Mendo is a character with many sides and a small set of constants that make him be himself in whatever role he takes.
Being Yourself is Actually Interesting Enough
Is It Really Him? Or Is this a Duplicate?
The legend goes that dictators around the world have doubles of themselves to go on to do things they deem dangerous or in case they are sick and don’t want to look weak. I have always wanted to have a double.
Like Calvin when he sent one of the duplicates he created to his school while he stayed at home playing with Hobbes.
You can also think of him as a modern era Mortadelo (Mort from Mort & Phil for the English readers).
Mortadelo always disguises into the most incredible things or people. The easiness with which he turned into a eggplant or a giant bee was his super power.
Mr Mendo wants to be just his pupil.
